A LARGER-THAN-LIFE MAN
Fernand Pellerin was a native of Sudbury. He studied at Laval University and obtained a bachelor's and master's degree in commerce in 1952. Two years later, he married Pâquerette Marmen. Together they formed a deeply united couple who were an inspiration to their family, whom they cherished more than anything in the world and considered their greatest treasure.
In 1972, he founded Marmen, a small machine shop that served the Quebec market, notably by machining parts for the pulp and paper and mining industries. A great visionary and hard worker, Fernand Pellerin was always bold in achieving his ambitions. Constantly reinvesting the generated profits to expand the facilities and acquire new equipment, he has managed to carve out a place for Marmen among major manufacturers. He had a formidable flair for identifying promising new markets and thus ensuring the growth and sustainability of his company, which bears his wife's family name.
Like the company he founded 50 years ago, Fernand Pellerin was an extraordinary character. He was one of the great builders who shaped Quebec. He built the pillars of Marmen and enabled its amazing growth by building on the precious values that to this day constitute the strength and DNA of the company.
In 2000, it was with a sense of accomplishment and confidence that he retired from operations to hand over the presidency to his son Patrick. Marmen is above all a family story. To his delight, three of his five children and their spouses are ensuring continuity, as well as some of his grandchildren.
A man of heart, he made it his duty to give back; he was involved and generously supported numerous charities as well as cultural and philanthropic organizations. His legendary vitality and dynamism allowed him to fulfill his dreams. Those who have had the privilege of crossing paths with him know that the words force of nature and exceptional man describe him perfectly and without exaggeration.
Throughout his impressive journey, he received prestigious awards. He distinguished himself through the impact and notoriety of his achievements, the exemplary value of his career as well as the extent of his contribution to Quebec's economic development. Fernand Pellerin was an inspiration to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. It is now up to us to honor his memory and continue the path laid out by this great man
